The eighth prosecution in state and federal courts since authorities thwarted an incredible conspiracy by anti-government rebels in 2020 occurred on Wednesday when a man accused of helping a plot to abduct Michigan’s governor entered a guilty plea.
Shawn Fix claimed to have contributed materially to a terrorist act, specifically the plan to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer at her vacation home in Antrim County. Attorneys agreed to remove a charge of using a weapon.
Prosecutors claim that Fix trained with the Wolverine Watchmen, a militia for “politically motivated violence,” and that at a five-hour meeting he conducted at his Belleville home, there was extensive discussion about kidnapping Whitmer.
Fix, 40, confessed assisting the plot’s Adam Fox in determining Whitmer’s residence’s exact location. This crucial information was needed for a 2020 ride to locate the house in northern Michigan.
Fix replied to the judge, “Guilty.”

He showed up in court as one of the five suspects in that round of the investigation. Three further men will go on trial in August after a co-defendant entered a guilty plea to a lesser crime in March.
Fix, who might be sentenced to 20 years in prison, consented to testify if required by the prosecution.
Four individuals, including the ringleaders Fox and Barry Croft Jr., were found guilty in the major abduction conspiracy case that was heard in federal court. Two more people were exonerated.
Separately, three men who participated in militia training in Jackson County were found guilty at trial and are currently serving lengthy jail terms.

According to authorities, Whitmer, a Democrat, was targeted as part of an extensive campaign by anti-government extremists to ignite a civil war around the time of the 2020 presidential election. Her COVID-19 measures, which closed schools and imposed economic restrictions, were roundly derided by adversaries.
However, for months, informants and undercover FBI agents were present within the organisation, which eventually led to arrests in October 2020. Whitmer suffered no bodily injury.
Whitmer cited then-President Donald Trump as the cause of the plot’s failure, claiming that he had provided “comfort to those who spread fear, hatred, and division.” After being out of office for 19 months, Trump referred to the kidnapping proposal in August as a “fake deal.”
