The Republican state representative Vikki Breese-Iverson has been pressured to resign over a picture of her son performing the Nazi salute while posing by a WWII German aeroplane, according to the Central Oregon Diversity Project.
According to KTVZ-TV, The Diversity Project demanded Breese-Iverson’s immediate resignation over the social media photo in a post on its Facebook page on Saturday. The youngster, whose name and age have not been made public, was in Madras, Oregon, for a school outing when the picture was shot.
The organisation, which works to support and advance the interests of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and all other people of colour in central Oregon, also asserted that Crook County school authorities “avoided handing down discipline.” The group claimed that they “have reason to believe that the student wasn’t disciplined because of his mother and ‘who’ she is.”
On a school field trip, the son of Oregon Representative Vikki Breese-Iverson was photographed standing with a Nazi salute close to a German plane from World War II. The Republican House leader’s resignation has been demanded by the Central Oregon Diversity Project.
Breese-Iverson, the house minority leader and a resident of Prineville, apologised “to anyone impacted by this image” on Facebook and criticised her son’s “extremely poor judgement.”
She said that she and her husband had spoken with administrators “about enforcing adequate consequences for his actions, both at school and at home.”
In her article, Breese-Iverson included a picture of her son’s handwritten apologies, in which he admitted that posing for a friend’s online-posted photo “was a dumb mistake. Now I really get it. Inadvertently acting badly in the heat of the moment might be harmful.
