Stacey Plaskett, a Democrat from the Virgin Islands, appeared to imply, inadvertently, that former President Trump “needs to be shot” when talking about his probe into sensitive papers.
During a live appearance on MSNBC on Sunday, Plaskett, a representative of a non-voting U.S. territory, criticised Trump’s handling of confidential data.
“Having Trump not only have the codes but now have the classified information for Americans and being able to put that out and share it in his resort with anyone and everything who comes through should be terrifying to all Americans,” Plaskett said on MSNBC.
She said, “He needs to be shot,” but swiftly corrected herself by saying, “Stopped.”

The video quickly went viral on social media, and some Twitter users took the remark seriously and demanded that she be removed from her position.
Conservative communicator Steve Guest tweeted, “Imagine the outrage if a Republican said this about a Democrat.”
Don’t you hate it when your words reflect your true feelings? Jim Hanson, the president of WorldStrat Corporation, tweeted.
Someone needs to look into this since President Trump is directly threatened. Plaskett must be removed right away, a user said on Monday. That wasn’t an accident of the tongue. She is a grownup. With her job, she ought to be able to manage public speaking. #RemovePlaskett.”
Another person said, “Quite the Freudian slip from Stacey Plaskett.”

The video was also tweeted by Students for Trump founder Ryan Fournier, who commented, “Lock her up!”
Plaskett asserts that Trump’s possession of sensitive information “should be terrifying to all Americans,” yet recent polls show that the previous president’s favour among Republicans increased after he was charged with mishandling confidential information.
Trump, who has pleaded not guilty to 37 federal charges related to the investigation into secret documents, is “going to have his day in court,” according to Plaskett, who also asserted this in the interview.

He will undoubtedly have his day in court, the Democrat assured MSNBC. “Let’s not forget that he was indicted by his peers—individual Americans who reside in South Florida, a red state—who saw sufficient evidence that there was probable cause for him to bring this indictment and that he should be tried.”
Plaskett has a long history of opposing Trump, having worked as an impeachment manager in the 2021 case where House impeachment managers claimed that Trump was “singularly responsible” for the Capitol disturbance on January 6th. Trump was exonerated following the second impeachment trial in February 2021, despite the efforts of the Democrats.
