The fourth member of the Los Angeles City Council to be detained in recent years has been arrested on suspicion of financial wrongdoing.
Curren Price, a council member, was accused of participating in a pay-to-play operation on Tuesday. He has not yet been scheduled for arraignment.
“A thorough investigation into claims of public corruption led to today’s accusations against Councilman Curren Price. District Attorney George Gascón stated on Tuesday that the alleged behaviour “undermines the credibility of our government and erodes the confidence of the public in our elected officials.”

The District Attorney’s Office claims that Price cast votes for initiatives in which he had a direct financial stake.
Additionally, he is charged with “having the city pay for [his now wife’s] medical benefits while he was still married to another woman.”
From 2019 through 2021, Price’s wife allegedly got over $150,000 in payments from developers who were involved in the projects he voted to authorise.
“We will keep working tirelessly to eliminate corruption at all levels and hold those who betray the public’s trust accountable,” stated Gascón.

Five allegations of embezzlement, three counts of perjury, and two acts of conflict of interest are being brought against Price.
Price is merely the most recent in a string of members of the Los Angeles City Council who have been charged recently.
The most recent conviction for conspiracy, bribery, and fraud was given to Mark Ridley-Thomas in March of this year.

José Huizar previously entered a guilty plea to one count of conspiring to violate the RICO Act and one count of tax evasion in January.
