The New York Mets’ miserable week and season just got a whole lot worse.
Pete Alonso’s wrist injury forced the organisation to put him on the injured list after they were swept by the Atlanta Braves.
The Mets slugger had to exit the game on Wednesday after being hit by a pitch in the first inning. The Mets described injury on Friday as a “bone bruise and sprain of his left wrist.”

For the rest of his team, the season has not gone as well. The Mets are 30-33 and are currently in fourth place in the NL East despite having the biggest payroll in MLB history (nearly $345 million).
Their beginning pitching was expected to be their strength, but their starters’ 4.93 ERA is the sixth-worst in baseball. The Mets had a three-run lead in each game while being swept in Atlanta.

Alonso is embarking on his first journey on the IL. A wonderful summer in New York with a home run competition was about to turn grim. Aaron Judge, the other power hitter for New York, is also out with a toe injury. The second-most in MLB, his 19 home runs.
