Pat Casey, a BMX champion who won gold at the 2021 Summer X Games, was killed on a motorbike on Tuesday in California while performing a stunt, according to police. He was 29.
Around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department was summoned to the Slayground Motocross Park in Ramona due to reports of a person who had been in a “motorcycle accident.”

The man “had crashed his motorbike while performing a jump on the park ramps,” according to a news release, but despite efforts to “save his life,” he was ultimately pronounced dead at the site.
Casey’s passing was announced by X Games in a social media statement.
The Instagram statement said, “We are deeply saddened by Pat Casey’s passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children, parents, and siblings.”
Pat will always be a part of the X Games family and an inspiration to everyone he touched, according to the action sports community.

On Wednesday, Casey’s wife, Chase, reposted posts on her Instagram Stories in tribute of her husband. Reid and Taytum were the couple’s two children, and they were married in August 2013.
At the 2021 Summer X Games, Casey won the gold medal in men’s BMX Dirt. He won a medal at the games for the first time in 2012 and then again in 2013, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.

The USA Cycling organisation sent a statement on Twitter on Wednesday, saying, “We are saddened to hear about the passing of BMX legend Pat Casey.”
“Pat made an immeasurable impact on the BMX community as a member of our first BMX Freestyle National Team in 2018. We offer his family and friends our sympathy.
Casey’s death is still being investigated, according to the authorities.
