Just one day after being charged, the former president Trump and two of his top attorneys who were representing him in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation split up on Friday.
Trump, the current front-runner in the Republican nomination for president in 2024, was charged with at least seven counts of obstructing the course of justice, conspiring against the government, and illegally retaining secret information. He has been told to show up in Miami federal court on Tuesday. The indictment is still pending.
Jim Trusty and John Rowley, the solicitors who were defending him prior to his indictment, resigned on Friday.
“This morning we tendered our resignations as counsel to President Trump, and we will no longer represent him on either the indicted case or the January 6 investigation,” Trusty and Rowley stated in a statement on Friday. It has been a privilege to defend him over the past year, and we are certain that he will prevail in his fight against the Biden Administration’s partisan weaponization of the American judicial system.
